What to Expect
The visit of His Holiness Pope Francis has been making headlines, and will continue to do so as he wraps up his visit to the province today. Reconciliation remains top of mind during the tour, with Pope Francis using the tour to formally apologize to Indigenous people for the Catholic Church’s role in residential schools:
“I humbly beg forgiveness for the evil committed by so many Christians against the Indigenous peoples,” Francis told thousands of Indigenous people, including many survivors, who converged Monday in Maskwacis.
Meanwhile, with only 17 days left to sell memberships before the August 12 cut-off date, the UCP leadership candidates will be barnstorming the province. Last week, the party announced those who had cleared the membership, financial, and vetting hurdles to become official candidates:

The Week That Was
Alberta Innovates’ Hydrogen Centre of Excellence has begun the intake period for project proposals focused on clean hydrogen. The centre, which is funded by the provincial government, will invest $20 million to support the successful projects over 24 months.
Thirty-three water infrastructure projects will receive funding through the $58.7 million dedicated to Water for Life and the Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership grant programs. An additional $27.4 million from the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program will go to 45 projects focused on building and improving local transportation infrastructure.
