What to Expect
Politics in the province will ramp up as the MLAs return after a two-week constituency break. There are two new government bills on the order paper that could be introduced: Finance Minister Travis Toews’s Bill 16, Insurance Amendment Act, and Labour Minister Kaycee Madu’s Bill 17, Labour Statutes Amendment Act, but look for Question Period to be dominated by things like youth care deaths, affordability, and the Premier’s leadership. With newly elected UCP MLA – and regular critic of the Premier – Brian Jean now sworn in and in the Legislature, caucus divisions may heat up.
The Week That Was
The Government of Alberta is committing $79.5 million for the recovery of Alberta municipal transit systems. With the federal government matching Alberta’s funding, a total of almost $159 million will be used to provide additional support to 26 municipalities across the province that have faced low ridership and lost revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alberta’s Education Minister released the final revised curriculum with content changes in three subject areas in kindergarten to Grade 6.
Premier Kenney announced that the province would soon release details on a plan to turn correctional living units into therapeutic treatment spaces.
