Mathew Preston
Senior Manager, Public Affairs
Mathew prides himself on having a unique journey to public affairs. A fifth-generation Albertan, he grew up on a farm in northeastern Alberta, where he was both a hard worker and a voracious reader. Mathew’s educational and professional life took him to Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and Ottawa, giving him a wide swathe of experience, from finance to fighter planes.
A writer by vocation, Mathew knows the power of a good story. As a chief of staff to provincial party leaders, campaign manager, and writer on public affairs, he has had to quickly learn how to adapt to new realities and work at a fast pace. This professional work, alongside some time as an active musician, has brought him to every corner and almost every community in the province.
He comes from a family active in their community and was a volunteer firefighter for over ten years. When needed, Mathew is always ready to help on the family farm.
He holds a bachelor of arts (BA) degree in history and political science from MacEwan University and a master of strategic studies (MSS) degree from the University of Calgary’s Centre for Military, Strategic, and Security Studies.
